Sam Bankman-Fried’s legal counsel has requested a federal judge to block a subpoena requiring the former FTX boss to participate in a remote deposition. The summon commands Bankman-Fried to produce designated documents for inspection and copying concerning the case of Voyager Digital.

Bankman-Fried’s lawyers are arguing that the validity of the subpoena is not valid because it was not personally delivered but instead deposited with his mother, Barbara Fried. They also state that compliance with the subpoena could potentially violate his Fifth Amendment rights as it requires him to review large volumes of material which may be incriminating in nature.

Investigation Into Attempt To Bail Out Crypto Lender

The summons is being investigated by lawyers for Voyager’s creditors regarding FTX’s attempt to bail out the crypto lender when it went bankrupt in July 2022. Other subpoenas have been served to former FTX CEO Alameda CEO Caroline Ellison, FTX co-founder Gary Wang, and FTX’s head of product Ramnic Arora requesting them provide certain information recently.

Opposition Of Subpoena Due To Short Notice & Timeframe

Bankman-Fried attorneys further argue that he has only one business day to produce 49 separate documents and four days notice for appearing; thus making compliance unduly burdensome for him within such short timeframe given before President’s Day long weekend .
